June joined our herd September 18, 2020.

We've raised goats off and on since 2007. We started with a small herd of Boer goats and quickly decided we needed to add some Spanish influence into our herd. I know lots of people love Boer goats, but they just weren't hardy enough for us. While June wasn't my first Spanish doe, she is the first since we got back into the goat business.

We weren't in the market for a doe at the time, just looking for a buck. We all know how goat math works, so before going to pick our buck up, I asked if she had any does she'd be willing to let go as well. She said she'd be willing to part with one and June was the little doe that stood out to me.

June loves animal crackers! When we brought her back, that was the only way she'd come near us. She wouldn't dare take one out of our hand, but she'd eat them off the ground a few feet from us. She stayed on the wild side until her first freshening. She had buck triplets April 6th. I can't say that she wanted my attention, but she tolerated my presence much better after her kids were born. Being a first freshener, I worried that she wouldn't be able to raise all 3 kids, but she has done wonderful! I kept them penned up for several days and the interaction really changed her personality. She still isn't one that will stand to be loved on, but she will come straight to us when we are outside, take treats from our hands and we can now scratch her on the head. She's the first one talking to me in the morning ready to be turned out!

Jasmine joined our herd May 20, 2021.

Jasmine is a Spanish/Boer cross. She was born on Valentine's Day 2020. Her dam was Boer and her sire was Spanish.

Mist is a Spanish/Boer cross. She was born on February 24, 2020. Her dam, Sierra, was Boer and her sire was Spanish. She and Nevada are sisters.

Mist had a very rough first freshening. I've learned a lot through the process and hope we never see anything like this again. Her labor wasn't progressing like I thought it should, but I wasn't sure what the cause was. I started her on a treatment plan for milk fever and she had gangrene mastitis. She was never nursed and I thought she faced certain death. I babied her for 5 days before she finally tried to stand up after giving birth. She did lose her entire udder, again strangest thing I've ever seen, but is recovering well!

Nevada joined our herd May 20, 2021.

Nevada is a Spanish/Boer cross. She was born on February 24, 2020. Her dam, Sierra, was Boer and her sire was Spanish. She and Mist are sisters.
